MISSION:

To empower families with the necessary personal and diverse skills to successfully navigate digital skills and online resources that in turn help empower them to self-advocate, promote education, economic mobility, equity and inclusion.  Our goal is to help adults and their families achieve their career and personal goals by providing wrap-around digital access, inclusion and equity that in turn act as catalyst to support and train families to lay the foundation for upward mobility.

Our Story

In 2003, Ana and Eduardo González ignited a transformative initiative with the founding of "Universidad para Padres" (Parent University) in Huron, California. Driven by a vision to elevate the community, they launched adult education classes at the Huron Technology Center and Huron Plaza Comunitaria, in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate, City of Huron, Coalinga-Huron Unified School District, and supported by federal and state programs. The goal was clear: to empower Huron's families through digital literacy and English conversation skills. Their evening classes quickly gained traction, with over 75 adults participating daily. The Huron Technology Center, initially equipped with refurbished computers donated by US Customs and upgraded by Toltec Media owner Ricardo González, became a bustling hub of learning. As federal funding allowed, Toltec Media's custom new desktops further enriched the center’s capabilities, while a USDA Distance Learning grant later enabled e-learning / virtual classes in partnership with West Hills Community College. Over the years, more than 650 residents benefited from the program, which expanded to include Alfabetizacion (Reading and Writing in Spanish), Primaria, Secundaria, GED, and College courses, continuing its mission to empower and educate the community.

Parent University, a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit Community-Based Organization, has been a pillar of adult education in California for over 20 years. Originally established to empower farmworkers and their families to escape poverty, Parent University now offers comprehensive support that includes digital access, inclusion, and equity. Its expanded initiatives address both career and personal development needs, serving as a catalyst for upward mobility. By fostering an environment where education and resources are accessible in both culture and language, Parent University provides a solid foundation for families to achieve their goals and build a brighter future.
